MELBOURNE.- The Other Art Fair Melbourne will return from 2-5 August 2018 at The Facility in Kensington as part of Melbourne Art Week, after the success of the inaugural Melbourne fair in 2017.
Presented by Saatchi Art, The Other Art Fair is one of the worlds leading artist-led fairs and provides visitors with the unique opportunity to discover and buy contemporary art direct from emerging artists.
The Other Art Fair Australias Fair Director Zoe Paulsen said: The Other Art Fair is designed to provide emerging and unrepresented artists with an accessible platform to showcase and sell work direct to the public. It provides the opportunity for immediate sales, enabling artists to fund and further develop their practice, all while forming direct and meaningful relationships with new buyers.
I feel The Other Art Fair fills a gap in the market; were giving people who are genuinely interested, but struggle to know where to buy art, the opportunity to view and purchase a variety of quality works, beyond the online world. The interaction between artist and the public is mutually beneficial and is what sets the fair apart.
Were excited about the diversity of artists and art that will be on show in Melbourne and invite all who love art to join us in August.
Participating artists
The Other Art Fair Melbourne will present the works of 100 emerging artists selected by an esteemed panel of art experts. The Selection Committee for The Other Art Fair Melbourne 2018 includes Andy Gomez (Co-Director of Hunger Rozario in Fitzroy), Tristian Koenig (Melbourne-based Gallerist), Santy Saptari (Melbourne-based Art Consultant) and Rebecca Wilson (Chief Curator and Director, Art Advisory at Saatchi Art).
The Other Art Fair has invited Dina Broadhurst to participate as Guest Artist. Known for her mixed media works, Broadhurst is drawn to the colliding worlds of fashion, advertising, art and design. She has created a limited-edition poster exclusively for the fair with 300 hand-signed and numbered works available for purchase.
Some highlights of the artists presenting at The Other Art Fair Melbourne 2018 include:
Ripple Root - The artist moniker of Singapores Liquan Liew and Estella Ng, Ripple Root make collaborative, carefree works reflecting themes of nature and wildlife. The two develop artworks physically next to each other, taking turns to add to a piece like a game of tag. This is the first time Ripple Root will exhibit in Australia.
Joel Tonks - After a sell out exhibition at the fair in Sydney earlier this year, Joels new works are highly anticipated. His recent paintings investigate the inextricable connection between Australian identity and its flora, fauna and landscape, with inspiration and reference material gathered from hikes and camping trips.
Jess Merlo - A recent graduate of Monash University, Jess is a multi-disciplinary artist with an interest in exploring the relationship between two and three dimensions. Her work includes painting, sculpture and installation, and she has created unique works for her debut at The Other Art Fair.
