HONG KONG.- Belt and Road, a charity exhibition of Hong Kong entrepreneur Dr. Eddy Li, will take place at Sotheby’s Gallery, One Pacific Place from 11 to 23 July 2018. The event will also mark the official launch of Li’s latest photo book; entitled Belt and Road, and inspired by the initiative, this is the first book of a Chinese photographer to be published by National Geographic. Containing more than 500 pages and over 800 photographs, it explores the market, sceneries and people from more than 30 of the region’s countries. Around 30 images featured in the book will be showcased in the charity exhibition, with all proceeds benefiting the Hong Kong Chinese Arts and Culture Promotion Foundation.

Dr. Eddy Li states, “I have been in the watch industry for almost three decades, and I can still recall the early days of my business when I was making arduous journeys to various countries, exploring the local markets with only a suitcase filled with sample watches and parts. Ever since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed, the countries and areas along the campaign have been regarded as an emerging market. As a fan of photography, I spontaneously want to visit these places, so as to take records of the local customs and sceneries as well as discover business opportunities. In the form of photography and calligraphy, I hope this charity exhibition can present to visitors the culture, lifestyle, landmarks and markets of the Belt and Road countries.”

Kevin Ching, CEO of Sotheby’s Hong Kong, comments: “Not only is Dr. Li a successful businessman, he is also an art enthusiast and a avid photographer. This summer, we are thrilled to support his photography exhibition at Sotheby’s Gallery. This show enhances the public understanding on the Belt and Road countries, and also helps to promote Chinese arts and culture through the charitable proceeds.”

Ivan Tsoi, Business Development Director of the National Geographic (Chinese Edition), states: “The Belt and Road Initiative is a major development strategy in China that has not only driven the country itself, but also greatly influenced countries of Central, Northern and Western Asia, as well as those of the Indian Ocean Rim and the Mediterranean. The National Geographic has always taken a courageous role as an explorer and, through the power of images, tells the world’s stories. As the Initiative develops, we take pleasure in cooperating with Dr. Eddy Li to publish the book Belt and Road. The journey of exploration is endless, and this is just the beginning.”

Dr. Eddy Li is a renowned industrialist in Hong Kong with almost 30 years of experience in the watch industry. Dr. Li was a 1991 awardee of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons. He was appointed the Justice of Peace in 2012 and awarded the HKSAR Gold Bauhinia Star in 2017.

A passionate photographer, Dr. Li’s work is regularly published in the travel and photography columns of Capital Magazine and Hong Kong Commercial Daily.
