NEW ORLEANS, LA.- An exceptional early 20th century French Louis XV-style carved walnut seven-piece bedroom suite, beautiful early 20th century Russian icons and original oil paintings by Marie Madeleine Seebold Molinary (New Orleans, 1886-1948) and Clarence Millet (La., 1897-1959) will headline Crescent City Auction Gallery’s next big sale planned for July 21-22.

The two-day Important Summer Estates Auction will be held in Crescent City Auction Gallery’s showroom located at 1330 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans, starting at 9 am Central time on Saturday, July 21st (lots 1-650) and 10 am on Sunday, July 22nd (lots 651-1004). Featured will be a wonderful array of fine art and antiques from local New Orleans and regional Southern estates.

Sold will be period French furniture (plus antique furniture made in the U.S., Italy and the U.K.), original artwork (to include paintings by notable regional artists), antique French clocks, estate jewelry (diamonds, rubies, sapphires, tanzanites, emeralds and South Seas pearls), and decorative items, like the four Steele Burden crackle glazed ceramic figural groups (each est. $800-$1,200).

With a pre-sale estimate of $5,000-$7,000, the French Louis XV-style seven-piece bedroom suite is an exemplary lot of the auction. The grouping consists of a pair of verde antico marble-top nightstands, a double bed, a pair of bedroom chairs, a verde antico marble-top dresser and a double beveled mirror door armoire, impressive at 110 inches tall by 61 inches in width.

The paintings by Clarence Millet and Marie Madeleine Seebold Molinary both carry estimates of $4,000-$6,000. The Molinary is an oil on canvas titled Still Life of Chrysanthemums in Vase 1889, signed and dated lower left and measuring 19 ½ inches by 25 ½ inches. The Millet is an oil on board titled Moss-Laden Oak Trees, signed lower left and 15 ¼ inches by 19 ¼ inches.

Just under twenty Russian icons will be available on Saturday, July 21st. The Russian icons include one of Christ the Pantocrator (Moscow, circa 1896-1908), with gilt silver and enamel oklad, 9 ¾ inches by 8 ½ inches (est. $5,000-$8,000); and one of the Virgin of Vladimir (Moscow, circa 1908-1917), with a gilt silver filigree oklad by Ivan Khlebnikov, 13 ¼ inches by 10 ½ inches (est. $2,000-$4,000).

French clocks will feature a Louis XV-style gilt and patinated bronze figural mantel clock, made circa 1850 (est. $700-$1,000); and a French gilt and patinated spelter and onyx figural mantle clock, circa 1880 (est. $400-$600). Also offered will be a 19th century Scottish Georgian carved mahogany tall case calendar clock by Alex Mitchel Gordals of Glasgow (est. $1,000-$2,000).

Marvelous original artworks by local and regional artists are a staple at Crescent City auctions. The sale will include an oil on canvas by the Baton Rouge artist John Korver (1910-1988), titled Two Clipper Ships in Rough Seas, signed lower right (est. $3,000-$5,000); and a 15-inch-tall gilt bronze sculpture by Troy Hotard, also from Baton Rouge, titled Male Torso (est. $600-$900).

Also in the sale are a 1966 oil on board painting by Rhoda Brady Stokes (La., 1901-1988), titled Smokehouse, signed, dated and titled (est. $1,200-$1,800); and a mixed media painting by George Valentine Dureau (New Orleans, 1930-2014), titled Standing Nude Afro-American Man, artist signed lower center (est. $600-$900). From Europe is an oil on canvas painting by George Fearn Smith (U.K., 1835-1926), titled Classical Lovers in a Garden (1872) (est. $1,200-$1,800).

Fine period French furniture will be on full display. Pieces will include a 19th century French Renaissance-style carved oak cupboard (est. $1,000-$2,000); a nice 19th century French Empire ormolu-mounted carved mahogany triple-door bookcase (est. $1,000-$2,000); and a lovely circa 1930 Art Deco maple and mother-of-pearl inlaid burled walnut parlor cabinet (est. $800-$1,200).

Also from France is a Louis XVI-style ormolu mounted carved mahogany bookcase, circa 1900 (est. $800-$1,200); an early 19th century Louis XVI-style carved walnut commode (est. $1,500-$2,500); a 19th century French Provincial Louis XV-style carved cherry vaisselier (est. $1,500-$2,500); and a circa 1880 French Henri II-style carved oak partner’s desk (est. $700-$1,000).

Additional furniture will include a 19th century English carved mahogany secretary bookcase, 91 inches tall by 48 inches wide (est. $1,200-$1,800); a 20th century Italian-style ormolu mounted pietra dura desk, 43 inches tall by 40 inches wide (est. $1,000-$2,000); and an 1870 American rosewood rococo Revival-style marble-top center table, 50 inches in width (est. $400-$600).
