SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- The Contemporary Jewish Museum announced the appointment of Sarah Bailey Hogarty as Director of Marketing and Communications. Hogarty began in her new role July 18, 2018.

Hogarty most recently was Director of Digital Content at California College of the Arts (CCA) where she developed an institutional content strategy to communicate CCA’s programmatic and operational vision, overseeing digital marketing and advertising, website development, social media, multimedia and video production, and more. Prior to that, she was Senior Creative Strategist at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), which included work on the acclaimed SFMOMA app and the award-winning sfmoma.org website. Hogarty also originated the role of Social and Digital Media Manager at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.

“We are delighted to welcome Sarah to The CJM in this important leadership position,” says Lori Starr, Executive Director, The CJM. “Her combination of expertise, imagination, and affinity to The CJM’s mission and core values makes her a great fit for our institution as we move forward boldly to build diverse audiences for our innovative exhibitions and programs.”

Hogarty’s work in the digital arena has been recognized widely in the field. In 2017, she and her colleagues at SFMOMA received several honors for their work on the SFMOMA app including a GLAMI Award for best Museum Wide Guide or Program and a Silver MUSE Award from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) and were honored at The Webby Awards for best use of GPS or location technology. Her team also received MUSE Awards from AAM for Best Online Presence for the launch of the new sfmoma.org site and for Public Outreach on a microsite project developed to communicate SFMOMA’s expansion. Hogarty holds an MA in Latin American Art History from Tulane University and a BA in Art History and Photography from New York University.

“My passion for art history goes beyond any single genre or movement, and I have worked at museums containing both encyclopedic and modern and contemporary collections,” says Hogarty. “I am particularly interested in the exhibition program at The CJM, which, combined with its role as an identity-based museum, affords the institution the ability to deeply engage with the significant issues of our time.”
