Bonhams Los Angeles announces highlights from its Modern Decorative Art + Design sale

LOS ANGELES, CA.- Bonhams presents the Modern Decorative Art + Design sale on October 25, which will offer over 300 inspiring lots spanning from the 1940s through the 1990s and ranges in style from stark, modern design to high-style Hollywood. The sale includes a collection of works by the legendary interior designer, Tony Duquette, a collection of 1990s works from a Swiss commission by Tom Dixon and Mark Brazier-Jones, and ten works by Peter Voulkos whose ceramics are widely sought after by collectors in the Fine Arts and Design world. Additional artists featured include Dale Chihuly, Ida Kohlmeyer, Ralph Bacerra, Sam Maloof, Pierre Jeanneret, Herbert Bayer, among others. The full sale will be on public view at Bonhams Los Angeles October 19-24.

Jason Stein, Director of Modern Decorative Art + Design, Los Angeles, remarks: “This auction has a wide array of compelling works by the most celebrated makers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Additionally, we are excited to work alongside popular LA-based interior designer Alison Palevsky and the Erinn V Design Group to select objects from the sale and create vignettes at our galleries.”

Works on offer will include glass, furniture, lighting, sculpture, and ceramics. Key highlights include:

• Dale Chihuly (Born 1941), Ruby and Crystal Chandelier, 2000, a massive glass chandelier commissioned directly from the artist (estimate: $70,000-90,000)

• Sam Maloof (1916-2009), Buffet, 1969, an oak design originally from the Nakamoto family, Los Angeles, California (estimate: $12,000-18,000)

• Ida Kohlmeyer (1912-1997), Untitled, 1995 (estimate: $18,000-25,000)

• Pierre Jeanneret (1896-1967), Pair of Easy Armchairs, circa 1955 ($8,000-12,000)

• Ralph Bacerra (1938-2008), Untitled (Lidded Sphere), 2001(estimate: $6,000-9,000)

• Tony Duquette (1914-1999), Pair of Sunburst Mirrors, design introduced 1999 ($2,000-3,000)

• Peter Voulkos (1924-2002), Vase, circa 1952 ($5,000-7,000)

• Herbert Bayer (1900-1985), Concentration, 1969, ($6,000-8,000)
