LOS ANGELES, CA.- The Hammer Museum at UCLA announced today two new appointees to its Board of Directors, Jay Brown and Cindy Miscikowski; and two new appointees to its Board of Overseers, Bill Block and Darren Star. Brown is a veteran music industry executive and entrepreneur who currently serves as Co-Founder and CEO of Roc Nation, and Miscikowski is a civic, business, and philanthropic leader who has been deeply involved in the long-term growth and development of Los Angeles. Block is a seasoned entertainment executive and current CEO of Miramax, and Star is the creator and executive producer of popular television series such as Younger, Sex and the City, and Beverly Hills, 90210.

The Board of Directors is the museum’s governing body; the addition of Brown and Miscikowski brings the number of board members to 22. The Board of Overseers, counting 27 members, offers guidance on the development of the museum’s programs and collection.

JAY BROWN
Jay Brown is Co-Founder and CEO of Roc Nation, a full-service music, sports, and entertainment label, which he founded with hip-hop icon Jay-Z and Tyran “TyTy” Smith in 2008. The label is home to renowned musicians such as Rihanna, J. Cole, producer DJ Mustard, Shakira, Mariah Carey, and Meek Mill. Roc Nation’s burgeoning realm also encompasses music publishing, television, film, merchandising, touring, and festivals. The company launched Roc Nation Sports in 2013; its roster includes Kevin Durant of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and Robinson Cano of MLB’s Seattle Mariners. Philanthropically, Brown serves as Secretary of the Board for the Clara Lionel Foundation, Rihanna’s organization to improve the quality of life for impoverished communities globally. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Global Citizen, a movement of engaged citizens committed to ending extreme poverty by 2030.

CINDY MISCIKOWSKI
Cindy Miscikowski has served for more than 35 years in the City of Los Angeles in the fields of land use, planning, and fiscal management. She was a member of the Los Angeles City Council from 1997 to 2005. In July 2009, she was appointed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa as President of the L.A. Board of Harbor Commissioners, and led the Port of Los Angeles in achieving record air-quality improvement while maintaining its status as the largest port in the U.S. She spearheaded the adoption in 2005 of the new master plan for Los Angeles International Airport, which has allowed modernization to move forward. During her City Council years, she focused on the purchase and preservation of thousands of acres of open space in the Santa Monica Mountains for public park and recreation uses. She served as Chair of the Council’s Public Safety Committee for five years where she led efforts to streamline the recruitment and hiring of police officers, and to implement reforms of the federal Consent Decree at the Los Angeles Police Department. Her public policy expertise includes budget oversight, municipal finance, and advocacy of citizen participation in government process. She received a degree from UCLA in political science in 1970. Since late 2009 Cindy has been the General and Managing Partner of The Ring Group, a real estate holding and management company. Additionally, she is a member of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Music Center, Genesis L.A. (a non-profit economic development institution), and Board of Visitors for the UCLA School of Art and Architecture. She also chairs The Ring Foundation, a family philanthropic entity.

BILL BLOCK
Bill Block is a seasoned entertainment executive and currently serves as the CEO of Miramax. He has produced dozens of films, including Halloween, Bad Moms, Fury, District 9, and The Blair Witch Project. Bill is a dedicated collector of contemporary art and recently purchased a work by Julia Rommel and a Tauba Auerbach video as gifts for the Hammer Contemporary Collection.

DARREN STAR
Darren Star is the creator and executive producer of three of the last decade's most popular television phenomena: Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, and the three-time Golden Globe® and Emmy® Award- winning HBO comedy series Sex and the City. In each series, Star’s multi-dimensional characters, captivating settings and layered plot lines hooked viewers, and became significant elements of contemporary pop culture. Star’s current series Younger is entering production for its sixth season, and his newest series Emily in Paris will begin production next year, both for Paramount Network. Earlier this year, Star was co-chair of the Hammer Museum’s Gala in the Garden, which honored artist Glenn Ligon and writer Margaret Atwood, and raised a record-breaking $2.6 million for the museum.
