NEW YORK, NY.- Following many rewarding years of exhibitions and events programming in Chelsea, Cristin Tierney Gallery will be relocating to 219 Bowery in January 2019.

The space, with its wood floor, exposed brick walls, and oversize windows, will represent a shift not only in space and aesthetics, but also a conceptual evolution in programming and the ways in which the gallery functions. Cristin Tierney states:

Many of us have been talking about the changes happening in the art market and the larger art world. Here in NYC, galleries are either closing or consolidating. Neither option appeals to us. But the old model art gallery also feels increasingly out of date and frankly, untenable.

We spent time this summer reviewing the last 12 years of business, thinking about core values, context and content. To best help our artists present their work in a manner that generates meaningful discussions and inspires other artistic responses we felt we needed a drastic change.

Our aim is to continue exhibitions, presented more intimately and thoughtfully, and for longer periods of time. We also want to expand our programming to include digital catalogues, seminar and panel discussions, film nights with related discussions, music and/or dance evenings, and artist-centric dinners.

The gallery will be open by appointment during January and February 2019, launching its exhibitions and public programming in March. The inaugural exhibition will coincide with the US premiere of peter campus: video ergo sum at The Bronx Museum of the Arts. Cristin Tierney will also present a booth of peter campus single-channel videos at The Armory Show, previewing March 6th.

Founded in 2010, Cristin Tierney Gallery is committed to the development and support of both established and emerging artists. The international exhibition program emphasizes critical theory and art history, with an attendant interest in under-recognized artists and art movements of the twentieth and twenty-first century.
