NEW YORK, NY.- Christies announced Alex Heminway has joined the company as International Head of Design, effective immediately. He will be based in New York and oversee Christies global sales in the growing collecting category of 20th Century Design.
Mr. Heminway joins Christies from Phillips auction house in New York, where he was Senior Vice President, Head of Design, Americas. Previously, he worked at a Manhattan antiques gallery Cove Landing, where he sold 18th and 19th century English and Continental furniture, sculpture, and fine art. Heminway began his career at Christies in 1993 as an intern in the 20th Century Decorative Arts department and later worked in the Contemporary Art and Bids departments. He holds a BA in Art and Archeology from Princeton University and earned a MFA in Poetry from Columbia Universitys School of the Arts.
In his new role, Mr. Heminway will be responsible for global management of Christies international Design department, driving business strategy and integration with related departments, including Post-War and Contemporary Art.
