AMSTERDAM.- The fourth official edition of
Haute Photographie closed its doors on February 10, 2019. Haute Photographie returned to Art Rotterdam Week gaining international recognition with its refreshing take on the fair format. The fifteen participating galleries and Haute Talents presented a museum-quality group exhibition at LP2 in Las Palmas, next to the Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam.
Photography Hub
Haute Photographie attracted about 6.200 visitors this year. Across the galleries nearly 150 artworks were sold to both private and corporate collections. Works by Jitske Schols, Albarran Cabrera and Justine Tjallinks proved to be favourites of visitors, finding their way to multiple collections.
The public programme, which was created in collaboration with Nederlands Fotomuseum, was very popular among visitors. The sold-out panel discussion with Jitske Schols, Carla van de Puttelaar and Laura Hospes, led by Catherine Troiano (curator of the Victoria & Albert Museum), was met with great enthusiasm and the photo studio by Maarten Bel and Bo Bannink was a colourful highlight of the weekend. Birgit Donker (director Het Nederlands Fotomuseum) confirms: "The Nederlands Fotomuseum and Haute Photographie became an attractive photographic duo. There was so much to see and do: from vintage photography to contemporary imagery and from guided tours to portfolio reviews.
Haute Talents
The Haute Talent Exhibition was a success for the participating artists as well. All of the participants - Lisette Appeldoorn, BILENBILEN, Lucas Hardonk, Nora Papp, Merel Schoneveld and Joost Termeer - sold numerous works. Nora Papp notes: It's just great to be one of the Haute Talents at Haute Photographie. Five months of coaching and preparation time for the fair in Rotterdam are over. Suddenly you are at a grand opening and not only present but showing your own work to a broad, interested audience. We talked to collectors, curators, editors, visitors and lectors. This resulted in interesting discussions about one's own artistic work which opened up new horizons.
Joost Termeer adds: To be selected as Haute Talent felt like a warm appraisal of my work and Im grateful to be sharing my work with such a big audience. It was a fantastic rollercoaster of emotions. The amazing people I met and the professional connections I made are probably the most valuable part of my experience!
Recap
Roy Kahmann, director and co-founder of Haute Photographie about the 2019 edition: What a special fourth edition of Haute Photographie in Rotterdam. It all started in the summer of 2018 when the 15 galleries we invited confirmed their participation. New galleries from London and Tokyo added even more colour to our exhibition. The strong line-up of 55 photographers was the most gratifying part for our team. In 2020 we will only continue improving. As in previous years, the six Haute Talents got an extraordinary amount of attention. The diversity in their work completed the exhibition in the way we had hoped. Fireworks! This years edition was being complemented by more than 100 large, illuminated signs showcasing gorgeous photographic artworks throughout the city of Rotterdam. The posters will stay up until the end of the month. Rotterdam exudes photography.
