Auction of Fine Paintings at Doyle on March 12
Leon Kroll (American, 1884-1974), Landscape with Bridge, Oil on canvas, 21 1/8 x 25 1/2 inches. Est $6,000-8,000.

NEW YORK, NY.- Doyle's auction of Fine Paintings on Tuesday, March 12 at 10am offers a wide range of traditional, academic and early Modern works with moderate estimates. Following two successful sales in this popular new category, the upcoming auction showcases over 120 affordable paintings by prominent American and European artists. Exciting opportunities abound for seasoned buyers and new collectors alike!

Leon Kroll (1884-1974) was born in New York and studied at the Art Students League under John Henry Twachtman and at the National Academy of Design, later traveling to Paris to continue his studies at the Académie Julian. Likely painted in France prior to his return to New York in 1910, Landscape with Bridge reflects Kroll’s interest in the French Impressionists and Post-Impressionists (est. $6,000-8,000).

British artist Alfred de Breanski, Snr. (1852-1928) is best known for his landscapes depicting the Welsh and Scottish Highlands. He made his debut at the Royal Academy in 1872, and also exhibited at Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Like the French Realists, he was fascinated with the textures of nature, rocky outcroppings, earth and plants, as evidenced in Moorland Cattle, a prime example of his work (est. $5,000-7,000).

Max Weber (American, 1881-1961) is represented in the sale by the engaging painting, Conversation, executed in 1948 (est. $5,000-7,000). A survey taken during that that year by Look magazine polled art experts to determine the greatest living American artists – Weber placed second, following John Marin.

The public is invited to the exhibition on view from Saturday, March 9 through Monday, March 11.
