NEW YORK, NY.- The Armory Show announced the winning artists and galleries for the Presents Booth Prize, the Pommery Prize, and Étant donnés.
Charlie James Gallery (Los Angeles) is the winner of the third annual Presents Booth Prize. Supported for the third consecutive year by Athena Art Finance, the Presents Booth Prize recognizes an outstanding and innovative gallery presentation within the Presents section of the fair.
By a majority decision, the jury awarded Charlie James Gallery a $10,000 prize for its exemplary presentation of works by Sadie Barnette, which incorporate subculture codes and found objects to present speculative fictions with the FBI files of their father, Rodney Barnette, founder of the Compton, CA, chapter of the Black Panther Party.
Ryan Ganders Het Spel (My neotonic ovoid contribution to Modernism), 2019, presented by Lisson Gallery (London), is the winner of the inaugural Pommery Prize, which will award $20,000 to be shared between the artist and presenting gallery. The Pommery Prize recognizes an exceptional presentation within the Platform section of the fair, devoted to large-scale artworks, installations, and site-specific commissions. The 2019 edition of Platform is curated by Sally Tallant, Executive Director of the Queens Museum in New York.
Kapwani Kiwanga, presented by Galerie Jérôme Poggi (Paris), is the winner of the inaugural Étant donnés Prize, which will award $10,000 to the artist. The Étant donnés Prize recognizes a living artist of French nationality, or who is France-based, with the prize. Kiwanga was previously recognized by The Armory Show as the Commissioned Artist at the fairs 2016 edition.
