NEW YORK, NY.- Phillips announced the expansion of the company’s presence in the Americas by naming Sophia Kinell as Regional Representative in San Francisco, California. The move reflects the increasing importance of California to the company’s growth.

As Regional Representative, Ms. Kinell will work with Phillips’ specialists across all departmental categories to support the auction house’s business development efforts by cultivating networks of collectors, art dealers, advisors and institutions. As Phillips' regional lead for San Francisco, Sophia will work with both private and institutional clients throughout the Bay Area, working especially closely with Phillips’ 20th Century & Contemporary Art Department.

Ms. Kinell joined Phillips in 2017 following a ten-year career at Sotheby's in New York. In her most recent position at Phillips, she was International Head of Proposals, overseeing a global team and developing bespoke, business-winning pitches for Phillips’ major private, institutional and museum clients. She is a native of Palo Alto, California.

“We are delighted Sophia is becoming a Regional Representative to help us expand in the Bay Area, a strategically important area for the contemporary art market,” said Vivian Pfeiffer, Head of Business Development and Deputy Chairman, Americas. “California is a key target for our development efforts and I believe Sophia is perfectly positioned to increase our activities in the region, where collectors’ tastes are increasingly aligned with Phillips’ own emphasis on 20th century and contemporary art. Sophia’s extensive experience in the region will prove invaluable to our growing team and help us work with collectors more proficiently across all of our company initiatives.”
