MT. CRAWFORD, VA.- Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates announced its 36th Semi-Annual Americana and Fine Antiques Auction to be held June 21-22, 2019. The two-day event features historic property from estates and collections in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, Kentucky, Georgia, Illinois, and Wisconsin, including important objects from “Woodlands”, the Clopper-Hutton family home in Montgomery Co., Maryland; plus several museum deaccessions, including Colonial Williamsburg and the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association.

Session I, beginning at 9:30 am EST on Friday, June 21, 2019 will be devoted exclusively to the Americana collection of Jack and Tommie Marsh, Columbia, South Carolina. The colorful group of material to be offered on Friday includes country painted furniture, folk art, cast-iron doorstops, candy containers, hooked rugs, toys, ship models, quilts, pantry boxes, and advertising, including pieces purchased from James and Nancy Glazer, Bailey Island, ME; the Meekins’ Country Treasures, Preston, MD; and the Heart of Country Show in Nashville Tennessee.

Session II, beginning at 9:30 am EST on Saturday, June 22, 2019, will include the firm’s usual fine selection of rare Virginia & other Southern material; 18th & 19th century formal and country furniture; American fine & decorative arts; folk pottery; 19th century coin silver; Shenandoah Valley and other folk art; a fine selection of late 18th /early 19th century English ceramic figures, Shenandoah Valley and other long rifles; early quilts and other textiles; Native American material; &c. Highlights in the Saturday session include an important group of portraits from the Clopper-Hutton family of Maryland, featuring examples by Sully and Peale; a rare Wythe Co., Virginia paint-decorated poplar blanket chest; a fine Stirewalt-attributed paint-decorated yellow pine diminutive box; a rare North Carolina inlaid walnut cellaret attributed to Micajah Wilkes; a mid-19th century copy of Gilbert Stuart's Landsdowne portrait of Washington, attributed to the artist's daughter, Jane Stuart; several rare Civil War and historical objects, including a Richmond, VA Sharps-style carbine rifle; a Winchester, Virginia carved walnut tall-case clock; an unrecorded Henry Clay 1844 campaign flag banner; and much more.

Company president Jeffrey S. The sale is on public preview June 19-20, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; and June 21-22, 8:00 am until end of auction on each day. The firm will also host its Ninth Annual Virginia Decorative Arts Seminar on Thursday, June 20, 2018, from 1:00 to 4:30 PM. This free afternoon event features lectures and demonstrations by scholars and craftspeople on the history of the Kentucky Longrifle in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
