VIENNA.- From 2629 September 2019 Vienna will once again position itself at the heart of the contemporary art scene. With over 30.000 visitors and a focus on Central- and Eastern European art,
viennacontemporary has established itself as a unique event on the global art calendar. This autumn, the fifth edition of viennacontemporary offers a platform for over 100 international galleries to present not only established artworks, but also exciting discoveries of contemporary art positions.
In collaboration with renowned Austrian museums and cultural institutions, viennacontemporary provides an extensive program that aims to stimulate and strengthen the global position of the fair, emphasizing on the CEE as well as the vivid Viennese art scene. Sophisticated associated events such as Talks, Guided Tours and family activities round off the program appealing to a wider audience and inviting different visitor groups to explore current positions in contemporary art.
The special exhibitions of ZONE1 will showcase artworks of emerging artists under the age of 40 who are born, educated or living and working in Austria. Fiona Liewehr will be curating ZONE1 this year.
Unique presentations await visitors as part of the new Explorations format, which will be compiled by Harald Krejci, Chief Curator of the Belvedere. The exhibition gives a relevant overview of the development of the art scene from 1945 to 1980 and the "different approaches of the artists to the state of the world", according to the curator.
Art critic and journalist Kimberly Bradley will be organising Talks a series of panel discussions; inviting artists, collectors, museum directors, gallerists, art critics and curators to share their perspective about the different aspects of the shifting art market from Vienna and beyond.
Taking place in the Marx Halle Wien, a historical 175 meter long steel construction with generous light-flooding window fronts, make the recently renovated industrial building an ideal setting for the concentrated presentation of contemporary art.
