MELBOURNE.- On Vulnerability and Doubt brings together works by Australian and international artists all variously engaging with questions of vulnerability and doubt, modesty and desire, awkwardness and love, and the fragility and humility of the human condition.

The role of the Doubting Thomas, and the privileging of feeling over the visual, as well as the role of humour, ‘the minor’ and ‘otherwise’ in relation to figures of authority are other subjects explored in a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking, sculpture and video.

‘On Vulnerability and Doubt also explores some of the complexities that come with artists putting themselves and their work on display, and the bringing down of one’s guard’, said ACCA Artistic Director Max Delany. ‘This ranges from the acclaimed shrouded figures of poverty in Andrea Büttner’s woodcuts to the delicious sense of irreverence and the grotesque in the paintings and animations of Tala Madani, alongside Cherine Fahd’s photographic depictions of personal fears in public spaces.’

Curated by Max Delany, On Vulnerability and Doubt includes works by Australian and international artists including Andrea Büttner, Cherine Fahd, Brent Harris, Tala Madani, Linda Marrinon, Archie Moore, Charlie Sofo and Ambera Wellmann. Wellmann is visiting Melbourne to attend the opening and public programs on a residency, in association with the Centre of Visual Arts, University of Melbourne.

Australian Centre for Contemporary Art’s winter Season is based on a different conceptual or discursive focus each year, developed by ACCA’s curatorial team, or guest curators, to explore new developments and recent tendencies in contemporary art and curatorial practice from all corners of the globe.
