PARIS.- CARAVAN, an international peacebuilding arts NGO, has opened its new peacebuilding exhibition titled ABRAHAM: Out of One, Many in Paris France at The American Cathedral in Paris (23, Avenue George V, Paris, IDF, 75008) running from 18 June 28 July 2019.
ABRAHAM: Out of One, Many is an artistic response to the recent rise of Anti-Semitism and increasing Anti-Muslim sentiment, and to the general climate of growing prejudice and stereotyping, which is resulting in a new type of tribalism in the West.
ABRAHAM: Out of One, Many" (playing off of the popular Latin motto "E pluribus unum" / Out of many, one) focuses on what Jews, Christians and Muslims have in common because of their shared ancestor Abraham, a spiritual figure of distinct significance within the three primary monotheistic faith traditions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
The exhibition features three celebrated Middle Eastern contemporary artists Sinan Hussein Qais Al Sindy and Shai Azoulay - from Muslim, Christian and Jewish faith traditions. Each artist has created paintings that focus on themes from Abraham's life that can guide our world today in living harmoniously, interpreting these themes for our contemporary context.
The exhibition highlights what we can all learn from Abrahams example about living together more harmoniously. In these three faith traditions, whose followers are referred to a children of Abraham, Abraham is seen as a model of hospitality of welcoming the stranger and embracing the other. The exhibition attempts to artistically answer the question, What can Abraham can teach us today about freeing our world from sectarian strife?
The exhibition will tour for 24 months to heavily trafficked sacred spaces. It premiered in Rome, Italy at the historic St Pauls Within the Walls from 3 May-9 June 2019. Following the exhibitions showing in Paris, France, it will be displayed in Edinburgh, Scotland during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2019, before beginning to tour the USA through the middle of 2021. The opening program event in Paris, France was held on 18 June 2019 at The American Cathedral in Paris with Shai Azoulay, a celebrated Jewish artist participating in the exhibition, as the special guest.
