BRYN MAWR, PA.- Members of the Metropolitan Painters, a group of artists from the Philadelphia area, are displaying their paintings at The American College during an art exhibition taking place through November 29. The exhibit, which includes 60 paintings from the genres of oil, pastel and watercolor, in The College’s Gregg Conference Center Auditorium, in which the public was able to meet the artists.
The Metropolitan Painters, whose name comes from Metropolitan Bank, their original meeting place, began their workshops over 30 years ago. Meeting once a week, the members of Metropolitan Painters, all of whom are professional artists who regularly exhibit their work in juried shows, benefit synergistically through the sharing of models, demonstrations, critiques, and the commonality of serious commitment. The workshops also serve as a meeting place for professional women artists who wish to paint, explore artistic _expression and socialize with one another.
Artists who are represented in the show include: Priscilla Bohlen, Margaret Boyajian, Muriel Chapman, Ida Cox, Janice Loper Fanelli, Thomasina Fontanella, Margaret M. Haines, Genevieve Pat Holmes, Susanne Kaminsky, Sally Kistler, Lee Kolbach, Zelda Meshberg, Martha Mucha, Betty Newitt, Libby Rudnick, Ruth Marie Thompson, Mary Jean Tomlinson, Dorothy T. Weichman, and Taeko Yonetani.
