MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA.- The Bass Museum of Art presents Paris Moderne: Art Deco Works from the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, through January 23, 2005. Tour organized by International Arts & Artists, Washington, D.C. This blockbuster exhibition celebrates the rich Art Deco style of domestic interiors in Paris during the 1920s and 1930s through exquisite groupings of 83 paintings, sculptures, works on paper, furniture and decorative arts by artists like Braque, Dufy, Matisse, Modigliani, and Picasso; and master craftsmen like Arbus, Champion, Dunand, Ruhlmann and Saddier, among others. Decorative objects like furniture, carpets, lamps and vases, are crafted from refined materials that include crocodile skin, ivory, ebony, Moroccan leather and fine woods. A centerpiece of the exhibition is a mammoth set of 45 gold and lacquer wall panels by Jean Dunand that originally adorned the smoking lounge of the ocean liner Normandie. The Bass Museum is the only east-coast stop on the Paris Moderne tour, which marks the first time the Musée D’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris has allowed these works to travel outside of France.
