NEW BRAUNFELS, TX.- The dog days of summer do not mean having to take a vacation from shopping and iGavelauctions.com presents two very interesting sales now open for bidding.

Book lovers will rejoice with Lark Mason Associates' important rare book sale focusing on the foundations of American Democracy and the Declaration of Independence. Among the offerings are works from three collections totaling over 145 lots, with a first edition of Thomas Paine, Common Sense published in London, 1770, estimated at $8,000-12,000, Thomas Hobbes, Leviathan published in 1651, and a group of George III Intolerable Acts and other bills, dating from 1774, estimated at $15,000-25,000.

Also included are popular novels from the 19th and 20th century, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, 1877, Huckleberry Finn, 1885, as well as Uncle Tom's Cabin, Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1852; and a near complete set of Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace, 1886, estimated at $3,000-5,000. The sale also includes material focused upon slavery, with manuscripts by Willam Wilberforce estimated at $6,000-9,000 and two William Pitt letters, one to William Wilberforce, estimated at $4,000-6,000. Savannah, Georgia-based Everard and Company offers up a variety of garden furniture, sculpture and decorations The sale of 369 lots features a wrought-iron fountain by the Georgia sculptor Ivan Bailey, estimated at $15,000-20,000. Bailey, a noted sculptor whose works appear in several historic locations in Savannah, was a prolific artist whose works were recognized by Mills B. Lane, Jr. The sale includes a large collection of furniture and fine and decorative works of art, highlighted by the Swiss painter, Francois Diday's Mountain Landscape, estimated at $15,000-25,000 and a group of works by the South Carolina artist, John Carroll Doyle, 'Old Friend' of a fisherman and his dog in a salt marsh, estimated at $8,000-12,000.
