LONDON.- Sir Anish Kapoor, one of the most esteemed and influential artists of his generation, has donated a signed print to be displayed and auctioned at the forthcoming Art the Arms Fair exhibition, an award-winning art show that explores war, conflict and peace.

Kapoor is considered one of the most influential artists working today. He is perhaps best known for his monumentally scaled public sculptures, which includes Cloud Gate in Chicago and the Orbit in London's Olympic Park. His work has won an array of prestigious awards, including the Turner Prize (1991), the Premium Imperiale award (2011) and the Genesis Prize (2017). In 2003 Kapoor was awarded a CBE, and was Knighted in 2013.

Kapoor has donated a mesmerising print that in its depiction of beguiling light and darkness sits within the language of form on the cusp of formlessness that is so iconic of his sculptural practice.

Art the Arms Fair will coincide with DSEI, one of the world’s largest arms fairs, which is taking place in East London. DSEI will see arms dealers from around the world trading weapons of war with military delegations from human rights abusing regimes. Art the Arms Fair uses art to address and expose this arms fair and the global arms trade.

The first Art the Arms Fair event took place in 2017. It was widely acclaimed, winning the Observer and Nesta New Radicals Award. The exhibition will run from 3 - 13 September at the Maverick Projects in Peckham. The auction, which includes Kapoor's print, will take place on 13 September at 7pm with the proceeds going to Campaign Against the Arms Trade.

Anish Kapoor said: "I support Art the Arms Fair in their mission to challenge the multibillion pound business that is the arms trade with its conscience free sale of barbaric weaponry to all corners. The human, environmental and spiritual cost of this vile trade is a shameful legacy that we all carry. We must therefore stand up and oppose this trade and all who profit from the violence sadness and destruction it brings."

Rhianna Louise, an Art The Arms Fair organiser, said: “Anish Kapoor is one of the most renowned and respected artists of his generation. We are delighted to have his support. There are few artists as groundbreaking and inspiring as him. We invite people from London and beyond to come to the Art the Arms Fair exhibition and see his work among an array of thought-provoking, diverse and piercing art, all there to expose and oppose London’s arms fair."

The exhibition will run from 03 - 13 September at the Maverick Projects, Peckham.
