NEW YORK, NY.- Bonhams announces the launch of coast to coast auctions both to be held on September 25 with the inaugural sale of Contemporary: Art, Editions & Design at Bonhams New York 10am EST and Made in California: Contemporary Art at Bonhams Los Angeles 10am PST. In addition, Bonhams New York will exhibit the art collection of Q-Tip, from the hip-hop collective A Tribe Called Quest. On public display for the very first time, the non-selling exhibition will take place September 20 to October 4 and will showcase works by Fab 5 Freddy and hard-hitting director Harmony Korine alongside artists such as Richard Prince Jeff Elrod, and Nina Chanel Abney. A separate press release will be available soon.

Bonhams New York introduces Contemporary: Art, Editions & Design, a new cross-category sale featuring 136 paintings, prints, photographs, drawings, sculpture and design furniture. This auction features a number of special collections and curated categories at accessible price points presented in an approachable and livable manner. "This series of works truly captures the depth of the post war & contemporary art market. We aim to showcase how collectors could live with the artwork and are excited for prospective buyers to explore different styles, mediums and objects in this new sale,” comments Andrew Huber, Head of Sale. Highlights include Cygnus, an impressive silver sculptural centerpiece by Kevin Grey (estimate: $30,000-50,000); Julie Mehretu’s Untitled, 2006 (estimate: $70,000-100,000); and James Brown’s Untitled, 1983, considered the best year of his career (estimate: $20,000-30,000). Additional highlights include works by top female artists such as Katherine Bernhardt, Petra Cortright, Marina Abramovic, Jennifer Steinkamp, Yayoi Kusama, Lolo Soldevilla, Rosalyn Drexler, Betty Parsons, Nancy Graves, and Kara Walker.

Made in California: Contemporary Art- Bonhams Los Angeles, 10am PST
The sale of Made in California: Contemporary Art includes 90 lots showcasing the exceptional creativity of the state’s leading artists. Since the auction’s inception in 2007, the biannual sales focuses on modernist masterworks of the post-war era to the genre-defying artists creating in California today. This auction encompasses a wide variety of works ranging from sculptures, paintings, and a historical and contemporary ceramic group from Viola Frey to Ron Nagle. Highlights in the sale include Ruth Asawa’s Untitled S. 165 (Hanging, Two Open Forms), circa 1960 (estimate: $200,000-300,000); Cloud-Photograph Triptych, 1969-70 by Joe Goode (estimate: $100,000-150,000); and Cube 12, 2006, coated glass by Larry Bell (estimate: $70,000-100,000).
