FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA.- On September 21, 2019 at 10 am EST,
Whitleys Auctioneers, located in the Greater Fort Lauderdale area of Dania Beach, FL, will begin their live auction titled Celebration of Ceramic Art. The auction is part of a 3-day special Porcelain and Ceramic Art Collectors Weekend.
Of special note is the Dorothy Doughty (18431926) complete Porcelain Collection of the American and British Birds. All of the birds were produced in small limited editions and few complete series are known to exist.
The collection of Dorothy Doughty American Birds consists of 36 birds species found in North America. There are also 3 individual studies in the collection. Doughtys birds have previously sold at auction for as much as $9,000. The most famous birds in the collection are the Bob White Quail Pair (an edition of 22) , and a pair of Magnolia Warblers.
The auction features rare antique and vintage, hand painted sculpture, decor and pottery from museum collected artists including: Charles Noke, George Tinworth, Fred Moore, Hannah Barlow, Leslie Herradine, Daisy-Makeig-Jones, Mark V. Marshall, Frank Butler, and Robert Tabbenor.
Other highlights of the auction include museum-quality selections of Boehm and Connoisseur of Malvern porcelain sculptures, a variety of Royal Doulton art pottery including Lambeth stoneware, Vellum figures from the Burslem studio, Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre, Belleek Porcelain, Hawkins Pottery and Halcyon Days.
Experts Michael Doulton, a 6th generation Doulton, Dr. Gwendolyn Reasoner, a world renowned authority on Boehm and Connoisseur Porcelain, and Christopher Evans, a Royal Doulton expert and known published author, will be on hand to meet and greet guests throughout the weekend.
