Charles Burchfield - An American Visionary Opens
Charles E. Burchfield.

BOCA RATON, FLORIDA.- The Boca Raton Museum of Art presents Charles Burchfield - An American Visionary. The artistic legacy of American master Charles E. Burchfield (born in Ashtabula Harbor, Ohio, 1893-1967) continues to fascinate and inspire. More than 50 paintings, drawings, and prints in this exhibition demonstrate Burchfield's highly original imagination, and his visionary talent that transformed ideas begun in early fantasy scenes into transcendental landscapes of America’s heartland. Burchfield’s expressionism is often compared with that of Turner and Van Gogh.

Best known for his romantic, mystical interpretations of nature, Burchfield developed a unique style of watercolor painting that reflected distinctly American subjects and American regional modernism. This exhibition is organized from the collections of the Burchfield-Penney Art Center, at Buffalo State College, Buffalo, New York. The Burchfield-Penney possesses the world's largest, most comprehensive collection of Burchfield's art, as well as all archival materials, artist’s journals, studio objects, and memorabilia.
