LONDON.- The Colnaghi Foundation announces the launch of The Practice of Drawing, a digital gallery introducing some of the most compelling but rarely displayed drawings in the Western tradition from collections around the world. This free educational resource provides an introduction to the world of drawings for non-specialists and also includes glossaries, introductions and short but informative film clips by leading experts including Professor Catherine Whistler, Keeper of Western Art at the Ashmolean Museum. The development of the website has been supported by the Tavolozza Foundation, the Charles Douglas Home Memorial Trust and Colnaghi.

The Practice of Drawing offers different pathways to enable visitors to explore Medieval and Renaissance drawings, as well as works from the 17th century to the present day. Short introductory texts provide general context, and links are provided to museum websites, with further information about publications, key materials and techniques. As well as Professor Catherine Whistler, Keeper of Western Art at the Ashmolean Museum, other contributors to the website include Noël Annesley, Honorary Chairman, Christie's': Dr Adriano Aymonino, University of Buckingham; and Jonathan den Otter, Associate Specialist, Old Master Drawings Department, Christie's. Norwich University of the Arts facilitated the filming and editing of interviews by recent graduates.

The Colnaghi Foundation is a charity established in 2017 to promote Old Masters and antiquities to a 21st century audience. The Colnaghi Foundation aims to inspire and excite a wide community of enthusiasts, from new and established collectors to curators, scholars, and students of all ages. Programmes range from accessible web-based initiatives, including video tutorials, filmed talks, expert insights and itineraries, to exhibition projects, events, masterclasses and academic publications including the biannual periodical Colnaghi Studies Journal.
