ISTANBUL.- Anna Laudel, one of Istanbul's leading and dynamic contemporary art galleries, continues its exhibition programme with solo shows of three contemporary artists using different mediums and techniques. The exhibitions showcase “In the Shade of Time” by Hayal İncedoğan, “Selfie” by Fırat Neziroğlu and “SYZYGY” by Halil Vurucuoğlu until 19 January 2020.

Opened on the 26th of November, the exhibitions focus on compelling themes diverging from botanical sciences to the dichotomy and rediscovery of life.

Hayal İncedoğan - “In the Shade of Time”
Presenting a conceptual depth with her versatile productions,Hayal İncedoğan presents the collateral aspects of time, space and memory perception spectacularly in her exhibition “In the Shade of Time”.

The exhibition developed within a system of archiving plants, expressed with the term ‘herbarium’ in botanical science, and brings a new dimension and meaning in the minds of the audience by combining today’s visual experiences and memory. The exhibition narrates the approach of time through works from various disciplines in terms of perspective. The artist, who has connotations from the previous exhibitions, comes up with a new subject and material for each project. By taking this method as a principle, she pushes her limits.

The project, which the artist has developed by starting to photograph the plants she has grown, includes works that have emerged as a result of an accumulation of approximately five years, including the growth processes of the plants.

Taking motifs as a means of expression, İncedoğan uses a unique language by combining different materials and techniques. With the exhibition, she explores the intellectual as well as the intuitive possibilities of the concept. Since the motif is suitable for synthesizing the eastern and western culture, she emphasizes the importance of being open to the universal dialogue. The exhibition includes artists works with different techniques; painting, audio-video, neon, and installation works.

Fırat Neziroğlu - “Selfie”
Fırat Neziroğlu transforms the traditional weaving form, which is one of the oldest arts known in Anatolia, into a unique contemporary weaving technique. Neziroğlu, which gives a different perspective to the classical weaving tradition with using the fish line for the first time in weaving, attracted great attention with patented special weaving technique of his own name. The “Selfie”exhibition questions the difference between the “selfie” image and the “weaved selfie” image which was accomplished in 600 hours. The exhibition invites the audience to be human with all their experience and to rediscover life by pulling out the monotony.

We forget the creativity of hands, which were seen as a divine gift in the old times in the modern age, as we do almost everything with one single finger click. Neziroğlu reminds us of the divine creativity of the hands with his woven works and builds bridges between the ancient times to the future.

Inviting the audience to an inner journey, Neziroğlu’s weaving consists of a rhythm. Neziroğlu offers vivid evidence of the rhythm of existence in his fabrics and makes the audience feel that the nodes of the fabrics are wandering in the dark and light sides, like the universe carefully created in 13 million years when nothing was present. This way, he explains that life is not stable and consists of the harmony between death and life, joy and pain, declines and ascents, separations and convergences, emptiness and fullness.

The artist's latest acclaimed weaving work “Ahmet” is also being showcased in the exhibition.

Halil Vurucuoğlu - “SYZYGY”
Standing out with his use of different materials and unique techniques in his well-known stencil-drawings and paper-cutting works with spray, Halil Vurucuoğlu re-constructs the journey to the depths of the subconscious mind with a picturesque narration in his solo exhibition titled “Syzygy”. Vurucuoğlu’s re-constructed journey lets the audience to discover their inner world in order to make sense of the external world and frees them from the pressure.

Vurucuoğlu describes Syzygy as the state of coexistence of the similarities and opposites. Emphasizing the syzygy concept, this exhibition creates an environment where everything is balanced despite the contrasts. Autoportrait work of the artist for the first time in a long period and references to his earlier works in this exhibition reveals his expertise in the paper-cutting technique.

Known for their use of different materials and unique techniques, the exhibitions of Hayal İncedoğan, Fırat Neziroğlu, and Halil Vurucuoğlu can be seen at Anna Laudel until 19 January 2020.
