FRANKFURT.- Richard Jackson’s art explores a performative painting process which seeks to extend the potential of painting by upending its technical conventions. Actively participating in the art scene of the West Coast since the 1960’s, Jackson first came to international attention with a major presentation of his installations at the Menil Collection, Houston, in 1988, followed by the 1992 exhibition, ‘Helter Skelter,’ at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art. He is internationally known for his complex installations, colorful wall paintings, neons and conceptual drawings.

For this exhibition at the gallery, Parisa Kind is presenting Richard Jackson’s new unique neon sculpture titled „The War Room“ from 2019, which is the center of the exhibition, and additionally stands in direct relation to his extensive installation „The War Room“ from 2006/7 in Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt on view from Feb. 6.

Richard Jackson was born 1939 in Sacramento and lives and works in Sierra Madre, CA. He studied Art and Engineering at Sacramento State College from 1959 - 1961 and moved to Los Angeles in 1968, where he taught Sculpture and New Forms at UCLA from 1989 - 1994.

Jackson has exhibited continuously since the early 1960’s in both Museums and international art galleries. Solo shows include the Crocker Art Museum (1961 and 2019) , Sacramento / CA, Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin / D (2016), OCMA - Orange County Museum of Art, Newport / CA (2011 and 2012), S.M.A.K. Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst, Ghent / B (2014), NRW-Forum Kultur und Wirtschaft, Düsseldorf / D (2014), Musée de l’Orangerie, Paris / FR (2018) and his upcoming exhibition at Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt / D (Feb. 2020).

After his solo shows with Galerie Parisa Kind in 2005 („BEER DEER BEAR“) and in 2012 („Blue prints“), this is Jackson’s third solo show with the gallery.
