How to Decorate Your Home if You are a Student on a Budget

Living on a student’s budget doesn’t mean that you need to settle for dull. You might not be able to buy expensive furniture and electronics for your new apartment or dorm room, but you don’t have to live in a boring and nasty-looking place, either. There are solutions that won’t cost an arm and a leg, and will swiftly turn your new home into the perfect oasis to rest in, write an essay, study, or have some friends over.

To give your room a homey feel and a stylish touch, use these crafty ideas that require minimal investment.

1. Fairy Lights
Who says that we have to put fairly lights up only during the festive seasons? These look amazing when you insert them into your room’s design and can transform it altogether. It doesn’t mean that you should go overboard, but draping some lights over a mirror or a book shelf will go a long way for transforming an otherwise dull room. Another unique idea is putting them in a mason jar and placing them on your desk or nightstand. This way, you can get some magic while trying out to find sociology essay ideas to write about, and give your new home a sparkle.

2. Accentuate a Wall
Pick a single wall in your dorm room, find some removable wallpaper – and make an accent wall. You can put up fabric wallpapers onto lightly textured, smooth walls, or even add a colourful tapestry with the help of some tapes and strips. This way, you won’t ruin the wall and will be able to remove it before you leave, seeing how you might not be allowed to paint the walls in a dorm room. Plus, you can always make an easy change if you get bored with it.

3. Hide All Those Wires
You probably have many wires sticking out in your room. This makes it look messy, which definitely doesn’t help you improve its look. To make your room look cosier and cleaner, find a creative way to get rid of all those extension cords and wires. You can find many cheap boxes that allow you to hide all the wires. Or even better – you can do one on your own!

4. Add Some Plants
Plants give every room a livelier feeling, not to mention that they come in all kinds of shapes and colours – and are extremely affordable. The small connection you build with nature will freshen up your room. It will give you a sense of calmness when you’re troubling your head with how to write an essay. And if you can’t do it on your own, you can always avail HND assignment help by professional writers online. Just tell them: write my university essay, and be rid of that task.

5. Tape Things Up
If you leave holes in the walls when you leave the room, you will probably be charged from your deposit. Therefore, you should forget about nailing things to the walls, or using glue that leaves marks. Find a tape that doesn’t hurt the wall’s surface and go wild – there are plenty of colours and designs you can choose from. Tape photos, notes, and just about anything you like to give your room a personal and funny touch.

6. Go for Colourful, Creative Bedding
How you arrange your bed can make a huge difference in your room. Add some colour for personal touch. Brighten the bed – it’s the centre of your bedroom. Pick colourful bed sheets, throw some nice pillows, and make your bed impossible to resist.

7. Use Pillows – Many of Them
Speaking of pillows, there are plenty of uses you can choose from to make your home more inviting and cosy. Pick a nice combination of throw pillows and arrange them around your room – on your sofa or chairs, on the windowsill where you can sit and read – whenever you find it suitable. Pillows are highly affordable and come in so many colours and shapes, this gives you an opportunity to truly add some colour into your room.

8. Fragrance the Place
Yes, the smell won’t really do a lot for the visual decor, but adding a nice aroma to your room makes it much more appealing to anyone who enters. Use natural essential oils to eliminate the risk of fire, and only light up candles when you’re wide awake and present in your room. In a natural way, the mood of everyone in the room will be elevated by a beautiful fragrance.

The bottom line
Your room’s decor should be based on your preferences and style. A limited budget is and should not be an excuse for having a dull dorm room. That being said, get creative and turn your room into something amazing. After all, this is the place where you’ll be spending most of your time now – your new home.
