Museum of Fine Arts Boston appoints new Contemporary Curatorial Assistants
Debra Lennard is a Ph.D. candidate at The Graduate Center, City University of New York with a focus on modern art in a global perspective.

BOSTON, MASS.- The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has announced that Debra Lennard and Marina Tyquiengco have been appointed as Curatorial Assistants in the Department of Contemporary Art.

“I could not be more excited about Debra and Marina joining our team at this important moment,” said Reto Thüring, Beal Family Chair, Department of Contemporary Art. “As we celebrate the MFA’s 150th anniversary, we look forward to the crucial role that contemporary art will play in the Museum’s programming, collection building and community outreach efforts.”

Lennard is a Ph.D. candidate at The Graduate Center, City University of New York with a focus on modern art in a global perspective. In fall 2019, she organized the exhibition Notes on Solidarity: Tricontinentalism in Print at The Graduate Center’s James Gallery, as the Gallery’s Andrew W. Mellon Curatorial Fellow for 2018–19. Previous to her Ph.D. studies, Lennard worked at the Hayward Gallery in London as Curatorial Assistant for 18 months, a position that followed a 12-month internship in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Tyquiengco is a Chamoru scholar of global Indigenous art with an emphasis on Native American art and Aboriginal Australian art. She is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Pittsburgh, where her dissertation examines Indigenous artists’ use of their bodies in art from the 1990s to today in Australia, Canada and the U.S. Last semester, she served as a Visiting Instructor at Brown University. Tyquiengco attended the Center for Curatorial Leadership/Mellon Foundation Seminar in 2018 and worked as a Graduate Curatorial Intern for the 57th Carnegie International.

Lennard started on January 27 and Tyquiengco will take up her post on March 16.
