SHENYANG, CHINAChinese police showed off some of the 8,000 pieces of Chinese cultural relics which were illegally excavated, stolen from museum collections or in illegal private art collections, in Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning province 19 January 2005. Cultural relics in China are under critical threat from tomb raiders and thieves supplying a booming domestic and overseas market, as smuggling and illegal excavations are rampant and the situation is expected to worsen as the market for Chinese art peaks.
