Winterthur Offers Seminar on Storing Family Treasures |
WINTERTHUR.- Winterthur conservators will present an essential one-day workshop introducing the best products, practices, and resources to assist in preserving family treasures on February 5, 2004.
The day begins with a basic introduction to storage methods, illustrated with examples of good and bad techniques. Attendees will then participate in five 30-minute workshops covering silver, family papers, photos, and textiles, and take a behind-the-scenes tour of some of Winterthur’s storage areas. All participants will leave with samples of conservation products and resources on how to get more, and are entered into drawings for some of the products demonstrated and a copy of Caring for your Collection, a book written by Winterthur conservators and filled with practical advice on how to care for the objects they value.
Winterthur’s state-of-the-art conservation facilities include an analytical laboratory with X-ray fluorescence spectrometer and laboratories for the care of textiles, woods, furniture, paintings, prints, glass, ceramics and metals. Winterthur awards a master of science degree in art conservation in conjunction with the University of Delaware, one of only four full-time graduate programs in the country.
