Painting the trims flawlessly is not everyone’s cup of tea. Therefore here are some tips which can be glanced on in order to complete the painting of trims perfectly. This part of the article will deal with the steps which are required to be followed to attain the best possible results.

Steps for Preparing the Trim for Painting:

Before painting the trim we need to prepare it for the process in order to get the best results. Here are some steps of preparing the trim for the painting process.

Step 1. The very first step includes cleaning the trim so that the dirt accumulated can be swiped off, in order to complete this step one can use the sponge. With the help of it, all the dirt of the trim can be wiped off easily and the work of giving the trim a completely new and trendy look can get started.

Step 2. Take an emery paper and start sanding the trim after it is done wipe off all the dust accumulated with the help of a sponge. One thing which must be kept in mind while sanding is if the trim is completely new then sanding has to be done lightly with a soft emery paper but if the trim has become old then it has to be done with a relatively high grift emery paper.

Step 3.When sanding is completed, take the spackle powder in a container, and put some droplets of water to make it a kind of paste. With the help of paste, fill up all the holes in the trim and once the filling is completed take a light grift emery paper and start sanding the trim. Sanding will help in removing all the extra plastic paste applied on the trim.

Step 4. Take the painter’s band and start putting it on the sides of the trim but one must check that the ceiling and the sides are completely clean so that the band gets attached perfectly.

Step 5. In order to stop the bleeding of paint take a putty knife and ensure that the band has been attached properly.

Step 1.Firstly take the primer and start painting the trim, all the holes and paste of sparkling powder must be covered while applying the primer. One should keep in view that the trim must be completely covered by the primer.

Step 2.When the primer eventually dries, sand it with a light hand so that the extra brushstrokes get removed with the help of an emery paper. Use a sponge or a cloth to damp the over sanding dust.

Step 3.Take a painting stick and mix the paint well after that use a container to pour the latex paint and then take a rayon paintbrush and start painting the trim. Apply 2-3 cotes so that the trim gets dipped into paint properly.

However, the latex paint fumes can irritate your eyes and nose and the paint smell can stay for a longer time if the room is poorly ventilated. In that case, you can put a bowl of vinegar beside the trim to get rid of the paint smell.

Step 4.Start smoothing the paint of the trim by applying long brush strokes. But no extra paint should be added on the brush while applying long strokes.

Step 5. Peel of the painter’s band before the paint dries off the wall and the ceiling.
