Lucian Freud Painting of Kate Moss Sells For $7.3 Million
A nude portrait of British model Kate Moss by Lucian Freud entitled "Naked Portrait 2002" is displayed at Christies auctioneers, on October 29, 2004 in London.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM.- Lucian Frued's nude portrait of pregnant supermodel Kate Moss sold $7.9 million at Chritie's London. Named 'Naked Portrait 2002', the painting is very rare in Frued's oeuvre for being one of only a few portraits the artist has painted of a well-known or famous person. Freud once said he disliked painting models as "they've grown another skin because they've been looked at so much". Moss was painted whilst pregnant, reclining on a bed with her left arm across a pillow.

Christie's specialist Pilar Ordovas stated that the full-length painting gives Moss a striking presence, exaggerated by diagonal white borders on either side, which are rare for a Freud portrait. Moss suggested the collaboration after saying in a magazine article that one of her remaining ambitions was to be painted by Freud. He has also painted Queen Elizabeth and Mick Jagger's ex-wife, Jerry Hall.
