AWS Certification: is it worth it

Many times debates and arguments have arisen concerning whether or not certificates are the only essentials to getting a good job. What is the value of a certificate? Do they really represent a skill?

Well, AWS certifications are not an exception. Many questions have also arisen about them. Is AWS certification worth it? What are the chances of getting your dream job with and without an AWS certification?

There is really no exact answer to that question as there are a couple of other attributes that contribute to AWS certifications (which we are going to discuss in a bit) but first, what does it mean to be AWS certified?

An AWS certification can be defined as a certain level of expertise of Amazon Web Services obtained by an IT professional, after passing an exam, or multiple exams, offered by the public cloud provider.
Types of AWS Certification

According to the path of your career, you could choose any of the following AWS certifications;

AWS Developer Certification

This is great for software developers who want to learn how to create AWS cloud applications. There are two sub-paths in this career path; AWS Certified Developer-Associate, and AWS Certified DevOps Engineer-Professional.
AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification

This is great if you are looking to build overall AWS cloud understanding. It best fits people who handle financial roles, managerial, and sales purchasing.
AWS Operations Certification

This is for individuals who want to develop automatable deployments applications and systems on AWS. It is subdivided to AWS Certified SysOps Administrator-Associate, and AWS Certified DevOps Engineer-Professional.
AWS Architect Certification

This is for those who want to design systems on the AWS platform. It is subdivided to AWS Certified Solutions Architect-Associate and AWS Certified Solutions Architect-Professional.

AWS Specialty Certification

This is subdivided to AWS Certified Big Data-Specialty, AWS Certified Networking-Specialty, AWS Certified Security-Specialty, AWS Certified Machine Learning-Specialty, and AWS Certified Skill Building-Specialty.
AWS Certification Cost

The cost of AWS certification varies depending on your career path. It could range anywhere from $150 to $300 registration fee for one exam.
AWS Certification Training

You can either take digital training or go with classroom training. One of the best AWS online or digital training is learning on the AWS website itself. They have many training materials and AWS courses from third parties. Learn at your own pace and time.

Classroom training is a little formal. This is in-person or virtual training, one on one with an instructor.

Benefits of AWS Certification

There are tons of benefits for AWS certified professionals. Here is why IT professionals obtain AWS Certification.

● They acquire it to demonstrate their technical cloud expertise

● To increase earning potential. Research shows that AWS certified engineers command 20% higher rates than their uncertified counterparts.

● Validate their expertise, so they appear as experts in the field.

● They are faster and more productive.

● AWS certifications are in demand.

● Learn new and invaluable skills.

● Understand the platform better

Conclusion

So, is getting certified with AWS worth it? The answer is absolute YES. It is the best way to kick start your AWS career and get closer to your dream job, faster.
