CHICAGO, IL.- Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art (Intuit) opened to the public on Friday, August 7, after a 20-week period of closure in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The museum will continue to follow all local, state and federal guidelines for the health and safety of Intuit's community of guests, volunteers, staff members and collaborators.

"Thank you to friends, members and the community for the incredible support Intuit has received since closing on March 15. Our staff team has been working hard to create exciting online programming and to get the museum ready for our guests to return," said Executive Director Debra Kerr. "We are looking forward to welcoming guests on-site and continuing to offer personalized experiences remotely for those who aren't ready to be back in person."




Throughout the month of August, Intuit will donate the proceeds from admissions to the Museum Workers Relief Fund, a mutual aid fund for museum workers in the United States who have been laid off, furloughed or otherwise severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Funds raised are intended for museum workers in the most precarious financial situations and those disproportionally affected by layoffs and furloughs, such as Black, people of color and Native American museum workers.

Intuit also announced the current exhibition, Outsider Art: The Collection of Victor F. Keen, has been extended to January 2021. The exhibition showcases one of the premier collections of outsider art in the United States and features some of the genre's most well-known artists, such as George Widener, Bill Traylor, William Hawkins and Chicago's own Lee Godie. During the closure, Intuit staff re-installed the exhibition to create more spacing to facilitate traffic flow that will allow guests to experience and enjoy the art while safely distancing themselves from others.

Intuit's adjusted hours of operation are Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Intuit reserves admission on Friday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. for guests who are in an increased risk group. The museum is closed to the public Monday through Thursday. Intuit will operate at a limited capacity, and the advanced purchase of timed-entry tickets as well as face coverings are required to enter. Tickets will be available for purchase on Intuit's website via Tock or by phone at (312) 243-9088 beginning Wednesday, August 5.

For the safety of the community, guided and self-guided tours, in-person programs, and event rentals are not available until further notice.
