Christie's Introduces First Open
Keith Haring (1958-1990), Untitled, 1982. Enamel on board.
Estimate: $80,000-120,000.

NEW YORK.- Christie’s, the market leader in Post-War and Contemporary art introduces first open, a new series of sales and educational events. first open is all about exploring the market for accessible and affordable works of art and is geared towards new and seasoned collectors alike. The sales will take place twice a year in March and September and will be complemented by a series of monthly educational events and gallery talks held throughout the year. From touring private collections and attending panel discussions to learning about the auction process and the tides of the art market, this innovative program will demystify the auction process and equip collectors with the tools that will enable them to understand art and to participate knowledgably. Headed by Alicia Bona, Associate Specialist in the Post-War and Contemporary Art department, first open will provide collectors with the aptitude to explore the marketplace with confidence and the ability to acquire works by both established and emerging artists in the Post-War and Contemporary art field.

“first open will educate first time collectors who are eager to learn,” says Alicia Bona. “We want new collectors to grasp how exhilarating buying art at auction can be, while providing a rigorous educational program that will offer insight into this dynamic field. Collectors want to acquire art of “their time” and first open will help them to develop their eye while they build a collection responsibly.”

Alicia Bona joined the Post-War and Contemporary department in January 2000. She has been an integral member of the international team as a business-getter and essayist for the sale catalogues.

Prior to joining Christie’s, Ms. Bona worked for three years at Marian Goodman Gallery.

The inaugural sale of first open will be held on March 15 at Christie’s Rockefeller Center. The first event surrounding the launch of this new sales category, an introductory talk to demystifying the auction house, was held on February 22. The next scheduled event is March 11.
