English Heritage's new guidance on project management

LONDON, UK.- English Heritage is revising its project management guidance, Management of Archaeological Projects (MAP 2), which is currently restricted to archaeological projects, to encompass all research projects within the historic environment. The new guidance will specify the criteria for historic environment research projects funded or undertaken by English Heritage.

The guidance will be released in two phases, the first being a statement of principles of project management for research projects in the historic environment. This will be followed by more detailed guidance on the practical application of the principles to the various specialist areas within historic environment research, such as maritime archaeology or building recording.

A consultation draft of the statement of principles of project management within the historic environment is now ready for public comment prior to publication in April 2005. Please click here (PDF 72K) to dowload it.

Please forward any comment to projectmanagement@english-heritage.org.uk. (Please note that this mail box is regularly but not continuously monitored). Or write to Historic Environment research project management, public consultation, English Heritage, Fort Cumberland, Eastney, Portsmouth, PO4 8DL. The closing date for comment is Friday 25 March 2005.
