Home Renovation 101: A Property Owner's Guide Cut Costs on a Home Remodel Project

Busting a financial plan is every property owner’s biggest fear when it comes to remodeling, and for a good reason. Poor renovation choices could cost you much, and before you know it, your renovation budget can easily spiral out of control. A+ Construction & Remodeling provides ways to save on your property renovation project.

1. Choose the right renovation materials
Swapping to more affordable home renovation materials is an easy remodeling win. It gives you the chance to save money without compromising on the overall aesthetics of your home. For instance, you can use commercially affordable adhesives, try laminate benchtop instead of marble, or an engineered stone benchtop as opposed to granite.

Consider laminate flooring instead of luxurious hardwood floor tiles or quarry floor in place of ceramic tiles. This doesn’t mean you should always go for the cheap materials. Keep expensive renovation materials for the areas where you want to make a bold statement.

2. Make cosmetic fixes
If you are renovating your property on a tight budget, don’t try to do everything at once. Focus on the necessary cosmetic fixes. They are affordable, quick, and easy. Besides, some cosmetic fixes catch people’s eye and are likely to make a big statement.

Perhaps your budget doesn’t allow you to re-do the entire kitchen or bathroom. That doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do. Change the taps and install an amazing shower screen. If you want to rework your bedroom or lounge on a budget, begin with the cushions and curtains. These are just small fixes that could lead to big wins.

3. Don’t shift plumbing
Are you planning a bathroom renovation? One way of making significant savings is by sticking with the original plumbing. Just upgrade everything else but keep the plumbing system the way it was. Keep in mind that shifting plumbing points requires a reliable plumbing company, and this could throw your budget off balance.

4. Do the preparation work yourself
To cut the hours a construction contractor will need to complete the renovation project and save a few dollars on labor, consider doing the light preparation work yourself. For example, you don’t need special skills to remove and discard old carpeting. Handling such simple tasks can shave time off your installer’s bill, leading to significant savings on your home renovation project.

5. DIY is good, but know your limits
The reality is that many people may not be technically inclined, and others have a talent taking things apart and reassembling them together effectively. If you are not the latter, don’t be jealous. The DIY approach can save you a lot of money during property renovations, but you need to know your limits. Doing everything on your own could lead to costly mistakes, a reason you should hire a construction expert to handle the renovation project.

The tips discussed here can help you save you money on your renovations projects without compromising your property's structural integrity.
