Art 36 Basel - Art Statements - A Window to the Future

BASEL, SWITZERLAND.- Seventeen one-person shows by young artists from 6 countries will be on display in the special «Art Statements» sector of Art 36 Basel, the International Art Show. They were selected by the Art Basel Committee from 218 applications. «Art Statements» offers galleries and their young artists a special platform, at reduced rates, that brings them to the attention of an international audience of curators, collectors, and the media. The 17 projects enable art enthusiasts to make interesting discoveries and experience exciting encounters with the work of the youngest generation of artists.

This year the committee jurying the applications has focused above all on artists who are as yet little known or whose artistic approach is not easily accessible. The projects on show are created especially for Art 36 Basel. All media are represented, from painting, installation art, sculpture, photography, video, and digital media to performance art. For Art 36 Basel, the selection has fallen on five «Statements» each from the USA and Britain, three from Germany, two from France, and one each from Denmark and Ukraine.
