NEW YORK, NY.- Janet Borden, Inc. is presenting The Fall Classic including work by artists ranging from 31 year-old David Brandon Geeting to Alfred Leslie, who will turn 93 later this month. Many of the works are unique, from Jan Groover’s Untitled still life, to Hanno Otten’s Colorblock. The exhibition runs from 10 October – 14 November 2020.

As visitors return to New York and to galleries, The Fall Classic is uniquely suited to remind and revisit some key tenets of this gallery’s focus. "We’re extremely happy to welcome people back to see art in person, a chance to consider our artists’ ideas and viewpoints. All of the artists have been working during the shutdown, so there are some amazing new pieces, along with some classics. We had the opportunity to go through many many images, and we have selected a wonderful group of pictures that interact with each other," said Janet Borden.

Martin Parr's image from Moscow's Millionaire's Fair interacts with David Brandon Geeting's Grace Pulling Her Hair. Both subjects are caressing their respective hair sources in a way that is both humorous and poignant.

Alfred Leslie's Self-Portrait, 2020 is a potent example of Leslie's mastery of drawing. The gaze is ferocious, as are the marks. Fred Cray has employed fingerprints as a metaphor for the virus. His untitled piece pairs a portrait using his Dissolve technique, where he prints on a surface that repels the ink, with colorful dots of fingerprints. A vintage Roger Newton photograph, Prison/Monument is also technique-driven, made with a handmade lens and printed on gessoed wood.

Careful viewing is rewarded by connections that link Jim Dow's Union Terminal, Cincinnati, with the lines of S.B. Walker's Birch., to a dazzling work from John Pfahl's Metamorphosis de la Terre. Come see The Fall Classic and remember the pleasure of seeing art in real life.
