The history that comes with vinyl records can run back for decades and is full of culture and rich with pride. Chances are that if you are listening to vinyl records more than likely you mom listened to vinyl records and that only leads to believe that even her mother listened to vinyl records. The vinyl record is a part of history and can have a huge part in why your family listens to the music they listen to today. Vinyl record players can be viewed sometimes as bulky oversized CD players when actually vinyl records are years ahead of CD players not only in the sense that they are older and have been around longer but also in the sense that they give off a more rustic sound that is like nothing you have ever heard before. The vinyl record was the first device that allowed people to listen to music in the comfort of their homes and did not have to go out and find live music to enjoy themselves. Before the vinyl record people could only hope to have a radio that would not scratch long enough to listen to one song and on top of that there was no picking the song that you wanted to listen to there was only listening to the song that was going to play next. Vinyl records for the first time in history gave people the option to pick what they wanted to listen to in the comfort of their own warm homes.

2. What exactly is Vinyl?

When diving deep into why vinyl is called “vinyl” is a lot like calling a mirror “glass” or a dresser “wood”. Vinyl is the material of which vinyl is made and before vinyl is made there are gigantic cylinders that are made up of zinc and glass that are used to make these vinyls. Zinc and glass were really used in the early and late 80s to make vinyl records then quickly realized that vinyl is fragile and needs a material that is a little bit more sturdy and that does not scratch so easily. Scientists that were really involved in material figured out that it was way smarter to use polymers for vinyl records that would make the vinyl a lot more sturdy and scratch resistant. Polymers materials vary in the sense that they have changed to a lot of different things that can not outperform polymers like wood, stones, ceramic, metal, and glass. Some things just can not hold up the abuse that a record player will put a vinyl through. That is why it is so important to use a polymer when listening to your vinyl records because you will want to continue to want to listen to that same vinyl over and over again because it can feel like a piece of history. When the vinyl first came out it was made to listen to music uninterrupted for the first time in history. Music from the radio was always being interrupted and it made it hard to enjoy. Once they finally came out with the first vinyl it included that you could now listen to twenty one minutes of music on one side of the vinyl as well as another twenty one minutes on the other side as well. That was forty two minutes of uninterrupted music and was a breakthrough in the music industry.
