Artsy expands its E-Commerce Click-to-Buy functionality in Asia
‘Buy Now’ and ‘Make Offer’ will be rolled out to Artsy’s Gallery Network in Hong Kong first, followed by Japan and Singapore by the end of 2020.

NEW YORK, NY.- Artsy has announced the expansion of its e-commerce channels Buy Now and Make Offer in Asia. Launching first to its gallery partners in Hong Kong, the fast and secure click-to-buy functionality will vastly reduce the time it takes Asia-based galleries to close a sale, from a 2-to-3-week exchange with the collector via the inquiry system to just a few hours. The e-commerce functionality will be introduced to Artsy’s gallery network in Japan and Singapore by the end of the year.

Commenting on Artsy’s launch of e-commerce in Asia, Artsy’s Chief Revenue Officer, Dustyn Kim, said: “Artsy’s e-commerce channels will provide our Hong Kong–based galleries with a safe and secure click-to-buy mechanism that will increase sales for them on a global scale at this critical moment.”

She continued: “Several galleries in Italy and France were kept from insolvency in March and April this year as a result of our accelerated launch of Buy Now and Make Offer in continental Europe. We believe that our accelerated launch timeline in Asia will be equally as impactful for our gallery network in this region due to the continued existential threat the pandemic presents to the art industry.”

The launch of Buy Now and Make Offer in Asia—one of Artsy’s most important regions, both in terms of collectors and gallery partners—follows the huge success driven by these game-changing e-commerce channels for Artsy’s gallery network in the U.S., the U.K., and continental Europe. Artsy partners with more than 300 galleries in the Asia Pacific region, including Edouard Malingue Gallery, 10 Chancery Lane, Simon Lee Gallery, de Sarthe Gallery, Blindspot Gallery, Alisan Fine Arts, and Massimo de Carlo, among others. This year, Artsy saw an uptick of Hong Kong–based galleries joining the platform.

Recent success benchmarks for Artsy’s e-commerce channels include:

• A 300% increase in Buy Now and Make Offer e-commerce sales volume year-over-year

• A 200% increase in average price point on Buy Now and Make Offer e-commerce sales year-over-year

• Nearly 5,000 unique buyers spanning 70+ countries across six continents buying works through e-commerce ranging up to $110,000 (USD)

• This year in Q3—traditionally a slower quarter in the art world—Artsy saw:

• The highest average order value (AOV) for Buy Now and Make Offer since the functionality was scaled to all U.S. partners in Q3 2019

• 100%+ YoY growth in unique buyers using Buy Now and Make Offer

Additionally, 95% of galleries that made a sale on Artsy in June 2020 listed their works with visible prices, demonstrating the critical importance of transparency in artwork pricing.
