NEW YORK, NY.- Baxter St at CCNY announces the appointment of museum executive, arts educator, and artist Jil Weinstock as Director, effective November 19, 2020.

As Director, Weinstock will oversee and expand Baxter St's mission-driven initiatives, public programs, and fundraising. She will play a continuous role in engaging Baxter St’s dynamic community of artists, educators, curators, and donors to bolster its culture and grow its audience through strategic partnerships. Weinstock comes to Baxter St with over 15 years of experience in executive museum administration and arts education, focusing on art, design, new media, and contemporary culture. She recently completed a seven-year tenure at the Children's Museum of the Arts, where she served as artistic director.

“I’m honored to work with Baxter St and joyfully return to my beginnings in photography,” says Weinstock. “In addition to nurturing the growth and development of Baxter’s diverse community of artists and supporters, I look forward to amplifying new voices through its rigorous lens-based exhibition and public programming and embarking on a forward-thinking strategic vision based on collaboration and partnerships.”

Baxter St acts as an art incubator with a robust exhibition program that hosts 15 exhibitions a year, four artists-in-residence, a zine fair, and its signature fundraiser STAND WITH US. Partnerships include National YoungArts Foundation, Aperture, and the International Center of Photography - Bard MFA Program. Founded in 1884, Baxter St is one of New York’s oldest artist-run nonprofit spaces fostering emerging lens-based artists' development at critical moments of their careers. Through dynamic programming and access to workspace, Baxter St has long been a catalyst for innovative creation within the artistic mediums of photography and video practices. Baxter St's core mission is to support and activate a vibrant community deeply engaged in the art of lens-based contemporary practices.

Jil Weinstock is an experienced executive and dedicated arts professional who facilitates inclusivity by championing innovative programming that urges audiences to investigate, engage, and create. Throughout her 15-year career, she has held positions at the Whitney Museum, Drawing Center, and, most recently, the Children’s Museum of the Arts, where she helped shape exhibitions, programming, and financial sustainability that reached and engaged new audiences. Represented by the Winston Wachter Gallery in NYC and the Walter Maciel Gallery in Los Angeles, CA, Weinstock is a practicing artist who has completed residencies at the American Academy in Rome and the Museum of Art and Design in New York. Her work has been exhibited internationally and written about in the New York Times; The New Yorker; Art in America; New York Magazine. Weinstock received a joint MFA from the University of California Berkeley and the San Francisco Art Institute in 1995.
