Francisco de Goya, May the rope break, 1815-20. Etching and aquatint, 175 x 220 mm.

HELSINKI, FINLAND.- Around 30 etchings by Spanish painter Francisco de Goya have disappeared from the storage rooms of the National Gallery of Finland in Helsinki, museum officials announced today. Officials do not know if the works were stolen or were stored in an unknown place while the museum was under renovation. Museum workers noticed the disappearance of the works after an inventory of the 19,000 works at the museum took place. The last time the works were seen was when they were loaned to a museum in Island in 1980 for an exhibition on Goya. The etchings are part of the Disasters of War series created between 1810 and 1814.
