|
KENDAL, UK.- Abbot Hall Art Gallery presents Wyndham Lweis: The Bone Beneath the Pulp, on view through June 4, 2005. Artist, novelist and cultural critic Percy Wyndham Lewis (1882 - 1957) was one of the key avant-garde figures in British art during the early twentieth century. This exhibition, organised by the Courtauld Institute in London, explores the contribution of drawing to his art and reveals the diversity of his output.
Thirty-five works selected from throughout Lewis's career will be on display, including figure studies and portraits alongside more experimental and abstract works. Mapping the intriguing history of Wyndham Lewis's rivalries and friendships, from his time at the Slade School of Art to the Second World War, this exhibition highlights an accomplished draughtsman who was also an artist of great imagination, wit and originality.
