CHICAGO, IL.- On January 25 and 26, Hindman will host its Palm Beach Collections sale, kicking off the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Palm Beach Office. Beginning with the collection of Mrs. A. Edward Allinson of Palm Beach and Southampton, the auction features a collection of paintings and watercolors by American female artists of the first half of the 20th century, including works by Jane Peterson, Margaret Patterson, Eleanor Custis, Rachel Hartley, Lillian Genth, and Mary Louise Fairchild. The sale also includes a large collection of contemporary furniture and decor by influential designer Christopher Guy of London.

Property from the Palm Beach estate of renowned interior designer Richard ‘Dick’ Fitzgerald will also be featured in Session I. Fitzgerald held several editorial positions, most prominently at House Beautiful and Architectural Digest, before opening his own design firm in Boston. Consignments from other estates and collections include a collection of Syrian inlaid furniture, Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian decorative arts, artworks by Constantin Kluge, Claudio Bravo, Yaacov Agam, Lowell Nesbitt, Richard Estes, Hunt Slonem and Stephen Scott Young, and contemporary furniture by Victoria Hagan and Formations.

Session II will feature a collection of Orrefors Studio glass from a Boca Raton private collector, a large and impressive group of French opaline glass table articles, Swedish neoclassical style painted furniture and lighting, and will conclude with an assortment of luxury wool rugs from a Jupiter Island Estate, Hobe Sound, Florida.

The Allinson collection includes a number of particularly outstanding pieces including a set of four Victorian silver figural salts and a George III mahogany writing desk (lot 23 and lot 8; estimates are $10,000-20,000 and $1,000-2,000 respectively). Jane Peterson’s Venetian Canal and Frank Hoffman’s Taos Pastures are also notable pieces (lot 115 and lot 123; estimates are $40,000-50,000 and $10,000-15,000 respectively). A Christopher Guy gilt-bronze and white velvet Jardin des Tuileries sofa (lot 78; estimate is $2,000-4,000) is another elegant piece that will be featured from the collection. Also by Guy is a modern Number 5 Mirror (lot 68; estimate is $1,500-2,500). Other highlights from the collection are pieces of 18th and 19th century Chinese and Japanese lacquer furniture, and an Irish giltwood convex mirror (lot 7; estimate is $4,000-6,000).

Bidding for Session I (January 25) and Session II (January 26) will each begin at 10:00 am ET. Session I bidders will be able to participate via absentee bid, by phone, or live online through the Digital Bid Room, Hindman’s recently launched online and mobile bidding platform. Bidding for Session II (January 26) will be online only on LiveAuctioneers.com. Previews for the auction will be available at Hindman’s Palm Beach gallery from January 20 to January 23 by appointment only.

Looking forward to upcoming sales, Hindman will host its Palm Beach Jewelry auction on February 9, and will collaborate with guest curator and respected Palm Beach interior designer Guy Clark for the March 2 and 3 Palm Beach Collections auction. Additional celebrations will be held throughout the year in honor of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Palm Beach office.
