LONDON, UK.- Australias wedding gift to Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles was a painting by Fred Williams titled Sapling forest 1962. Australian Prime Minister John Howard stated that the work would remind Prince Charles of the he lived in Australia. According to Howard, Fred Williams is considered one of Australias greatest landscape artists. He died in 1982. In 2003, the British museum held an exhibition on Fred Williams and his works hang in major museums in Australia, Europe and America.
John Howard stated, "During the 1960s Williams was inspired by the forested hills of Victoria around Melbourne. His Royal Highness would be familiar with this environment as a result of his time at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School."
John Howard also gave the following message to the couple: "On behalf of the Government and people of Australia, I should like to convey the very warmest congratulations on the occasion of your wedding. The strength of your feeling for our country was clearly evident during your visit, and was reflected in the warmth of the welcome you received."
