Two single-owner collections of British coins are 100% sold at Dix Noonan Webb
The sale saw strong prices throughout, with the highest price being paid for a Proof Gothic Crown from the reign of Queen Victoria, that dated from 1847 and sold for £11,160.



LONDON.- Two important Single-owner collections of British Coins were 100% sold in a sale of Coins on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at International coins, medals, banknotes and jewellery specialists Dix Noonan Webb.

The sale saw strong prices throughout, with the highest price being paid for a Proof Gothic Crown from the reign of Queen Victoria, that dated from 1847 and sold for £11,160. Estimated to fetch £3,000-4,000, it was bought by a Japanese collector who was bidding against another Far East competitor [lot 295]. This was being sold as part of the ‘Fleet’ Collection of British Milled Silver Coins which comprised 324 lots and fetched £165,763.

Two other interesting items from the ‘Fleet’ Collection were two extremely rare halfcrowns, also from the reign of Queen Victoria – one dating from 1841, the other 1839 - which fetched £7,440 and £5,704 respectively [lots 330 and 328].

The Martyn Alan Eeley-Hardcastle Collection of British Coins comprised 240 lots and fetched £112,567. The highest price of the collection was paid for a very rare Elizabeth II (1952-) Proof Crown dating from 1953 which sold for £2,976 to Private Collector against an estimate of £1,000-1,500 [lot 229].

Elsewhere in the sale, which comprised 844 lots and was 99.5% sold was an Elizabeth II Proof set also from 1953, which sold for £8,060 to a Japanese Collector. It had been consigned someone from the UK and was estimated at £1,000-1,200 [lot 614].
