« It is a dream for me to join the Artcurial team which, thanks to its expertise and level of excel- lence in all its fields, has always inspired me. Gerard Vidal, Spain representative

Born in 1987 in Figueres in the same city as Salvador Dalí, Gerard Vidal studied art history at the Universitat de Barcelona and discovered the world of auctions at the Bonanova Subastas auction house in Barcelona.

Upon his arrival in Paris in 2014, he completed a Master’s degree in Medieval Worlds at the Sorbonne, became fascinated by the world of French auctions, and discovered Artcurial thanks to the sale dedicated to the world of the creator of Tintin organized by the house’s Comic Book Department. In 2017, he opened his own auction house Subhastes Públiques de Barcelona in his native country.

It was in 2018 when he returned to Paris that Gerard Vidal began collaborating with Artcurial, and more specifically with the Old Masters department. In 2021, the collaboration continues with the appointment of Gerard Vidal as the official representative of the auction house in Spain.

A passionate collector, Gerard Vidal emphasizes a particularly marked taste for classical arts, 18th century engravings, art objects from the Louis XIV period or the medieval era.

His dream? To find one day the giant engraving of twelve plates representing the grand staircase of Versailles decorated by Le Brun, and which recompiles the whole history of Louis XIV.

Artcurial in Europe & the world

With offices all over Europe, Artcurial operates in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy and Monaco as well as in Morocco since October 2019, and soon in Switzerland. The house continues its territorial and cultural development with this new presence in Spain.

Artcurial’s relationship with Spain has been reflected for many years in the dispersal of collections by leading Spanish artists. In June 2019, a group of 15 works on paper by Salvador Dalí was sold for a total of nearly €1.2 million, with 100% of the lots purchased. Or the event sale of a white marble sculpture by Auguste Rodin representing «Andromeda», sold for €3.6m at Artcurial on May 30, 2017 and discovered in Madrid.
