UK Landmarks Open Their Doors |
LONDON, ENGLAND.- To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the UK building preservation charity Landmark Trust opened 40 UK Landmarks to the public over the weekend. They include follies, castles, towers, banqueting houses and many other historic buildings rescued by the Landmark Trust. Admission to Open Doors is free.
Landmarks opening include a Martello Tower in Suffolk (right), an 18th-century former inn near Edinburgh, a Victorian coastal fort in Wales and a medieval priory in Somerset. Augustus Pugin’s Victorian Gothic home in Kent, currently being restored, will also be open.
Each Landmark is remarkable in some way, for its architecture, its history or setting. Open Doors will give people the opportunity to see inside some of the UK’s finest buildings and learn more about their architecture and history.
The buildings will open between 10.30am and 4.30pm on both days. A free information leaflet giving details on their history and restoration will be available to visitors.
