MADRID.- ARCOmadrid celebrates its 40th edition this year between 7 - 11 July, incorporating a special Latin American art section, produced in collaboration with Mariano Mayer. At this event, Latin American takes on new importance with the incorporation of a special section dedicated to Latin American art. Luciana Brito Galeria participates both in the newly curated section and in the online section ARCO E-XHIBITIONS, while Galeria Luisa Strina participates exclusively online, in ARCO E-XHIBITIONS, running parallel to the permanent physical spaces of the galleries.
Galeria Luisa Strina, São Paulo
Galeria Luisa Strina features the works of Fernanda Gomes and Jarbas Lopes, in the digital section of ARCOmadrid, the ARCO E-XHIBITIONS. Jarbas Lopes' work moves between painting, sculpture, drawing, artist books and performance. Many of his works are participatory or sensory, and the artist encourages participants to touch, hold, move and turn pages. Utopian projects are planned and made to engage the community and suggest new ways for society to function. Fernanda Gomes, on the other hand, deals with a wide range of processes and procedures, and articulates a language with an extensive vocabulary, in constant expansion. The palette of whites and raw materials take a radical view of color, literally including light as matter. The gathering of works in the space is treated as a work in itself, in unrepeatable exhibitions that react to different contexts. Still, the artist believes in autonomous works of art, in their most primitive sense of a living object. The modest materials, the human scale, the playful dimension contribute to an open and personal meaning for each observer.
Luciana Brito Galeria, São Paulo
Luciana Brito Galeria presents the videos Campo by Regina Silveira and Photokinetic by Héctor Zamora. Campo shows a simple one-take edit-free action, of a finger gesture of going along the limits, imaginary - meridian and diagonally - implicated lines of the field inside the video frame. Campo is the first video created by the artist, together with the initial developments of video art in collaboration with MAC USP between the years of 1976 and 1978. Photokinetic is a video produced during the exhibition Lattice Detour, by Héctor Zamora, in the Roof Garden, at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. It involves a game concerning the effect of movements, a playful dance, of the bodies of the participants and their effects brought about by the empty spaces between the bricks, creating fragmented shadows. The movement is occasioned by the sunlight at sunset; an unexpected effect that happens at the end of the day. The gallery also participates in the digital section of the fair, ARCO E-XHIBITIONS.
